Every year, America celebrates Veterans Day on November 11th. It's a celebration of all vets that have served their country and dedicated their lives to protect our nation.

And, over the years, one form of media above all others has gone out of their way to honor the men and women who protect our nation: Comic Books. Captain America was created and designed to be the living embodiment of the American spirit and to represent everyone that puts on a military uniform to protect this country.

While Cap may be the biggest name, there are COUNTLESS other heroes who got their in the armed forces. From Kate Kane (Batwoman) to Ben Grimm (The Thing), many heroes got their sense of duty and drive to protect the innocent from their time spent in uniform.

And believe it or not, legendary comic artist Will Eisner actually impacted Military training. So, comics and their characters, have a LONG history with American Armed Services.

While this list is FAR from complete, here are some of the best and most important superheroes who also served in the military. Many writers in comic history had such a respect for those who served and the sacrifices they made, that many super heroes have military back stories. Guys like Jack Kirby and Stan Lee thought these heroes should be honored and be made into large than life heroes.

If you're a veteran or if one of your loved ones died to protect this country, I just want to say thank you. That selfless act of sacrifice is one that very few can make and it takes a special kind of person to do it. So, thank you. Thank you for sacrificing your time and putting your life on the line so that we can enjoy life to its fullest.
