DC’s 2026 Release Calendar: Mark Your Calendar for Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface
2026 is going to be a BIG year for geeks! There's all sorts of cool, new stuff coming for our enjoyment. We already listed out all the confirmed shows & movies Marvel will be releasing in 2026. Their slate includes everything from a new Spider-Man movie to the all-new Wonder Man TV show, and of course the next installment of the Avengers saga Doomsday.
But Marvel isn't the only company with new stuff coming in 2026. DC also has some pretty big projects slated for the new year. While Marvel has more confirmed projects at the moment (8 total), DC has some pretty big properties hitting the big and small screen in the new year.
While DC's future may seem a bit uncertain at the moment with Netflix being in the process of buying numerous properties from Warner Bros including DC, it seems that James Gunn & company still have a plan in place and working towards their goals - including all the new releases coming out this year. Here's the projects confirmed so far for 2026.
Early to Mid 2026:
TBD: Lanterns (HBO Max)
Lanterns release date has been fluid to say the least. Originally it was going to release before Supergirl hit theatres. Then it was moved to after. It was going to come out in the early part of 2026 then it got pushed back to later in the year. A trailer was shown during an HBO event in December but has yet to be released publicly.
There's a lot up in the air when it comes to this show. But, here's what we know: it'll be 8 episodes long and will follow veteran Lantern Hal Jordan & new recruit John Stewart as they investigate a murder in Nebraska. We also know that the first episode (at the very least) was written by popular comic writers Tom King (the guy who wrote the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow mini-series and Batman) & Damon Lindelof (he wrote several comics including Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk & Legends of the Dark Knight issue 1).
June 2026:
June 26: Supergirl
So far, we only have a teaser trailer for this summer blockbuster. But what we know and have seen so far is pretty exciting. Following up last year's hit Superman film, Kara is back in her own film based on the modern Tom King masterpiece Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Supergirl gets her own movie based on a great comic. Lobo is FINALLY getting the big screen treatment. If this movie is half as good as the comic, a lot of folks are going to be in for a treat this summer.
September 2026:
September 11: Clayface
Those DC folks sure like to keep things quiet, huh? This is ANOTHER project that we don't really know a whole lot about. No trailer yet, very little info. Here's what we do know - the frequent Batman villain is getting his own stand alone movie. How this works in a world where Batman has yet to be introduced? I don't know. But, I'm excited as Clayface is one of my favorite villains/anti-heroes.
Here's what we know so far: It's a "body horror film" co-written by horror legend Mike Flanagan. The "details" of the film are pretty sparse - an actor gets disfigured by the mob and goes to see a scientist...who turns his body into clay.
Flanagan has stated publicly that he was a big fan of Batman: The Animated Series and the 2-part episode that spotlighted Clayface "Feat of Clay" was a major inspiration.
Technically, a Clayface has already appeared in the new DC Universe - showing up in an episode of Creature Commandos. In the comics, there's been several different Clayfaces. Whether the one in the show and the one that appears on the big screen this year are one in the same remains to be seen.
