DC And Marvel Bring Back Superman And Spider-Man Crossover
Hot on the heels of a VERY successful crossover event between Batman & Deadpool, DC Comics and Marvel have announced the return of the original comic crossover duo - Spider-Man and Superman!
If you didn't know, back in 1976, Superman & Spider-Man starred in the very first superhero crossover book - Superman vs the Amazing Spider-Man. Technically, this was the second crossover between companies as they worked on MGM's Marvelous Wizard of Oz together, but this is the first time their superheroes (and villains) interacted with each in the same universe.
The idea was actually originally pitched as a movie, but as both companies already had projects lined up (the first Superman movie and the original Spider-Man TV show), they agreed to release a one-shot instead. Nearly 50 years later, the pair will be meeting up again in an awesome crossover event on March 25, 2026.
The first one-shot released will be headed up by DC creators including Jim Lee, Tom King, Mark Waid, Jorge Jimenez, and others.
According to DC, here's the story pitch for the main story written by Waid & illustrated by Jorge Jimenez:
When journalists Clark Kent and Peter Parker find themselves chasing the same story, the conspiracy they uncover could change the world—especially if Brainiac and Doctor Octopus have anything to say about it. (And we bet they do!) Good thing our intrepid newshounds are secretly Superman and the amazing Spider-Man.
Sound pretty cool, right? That's not all! There's at least 7 backup stories in the issue including:
- Tom King and Jim Lee tell a tale of Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson
- Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber revisit Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen…and Carnage
- Sean Murphy takes us to the future with Superboy (Legion) and Spider-Man 2099
- Gail Simone teams up with Belén Ortega for a look at what happens when Power Girl meets Punisher
- Christopher Priest and Daniel Sampere show us a time when Superboy Prime (who reads all the comics!) decided to visit Spider-Man right after he got the black suit
- Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott take us on an exciting race between the Daily Planet and the Daily Bugle
- Plus, we finally get to answer the age-old question of who would win in a fair fight: Pa Kent or Uncle Ben! (Just kidding, those guys are too nice to fight each other, but Jeff Lemire and Rafa Sandoval will take us deep into the past to see the two men bond in the face of adversity.)
If the Batman vs Deadpool crossover is any indication on what's the come, there's going to be a TON of variant covers to choose from. You can get more details here. Marvel will be releasing their version of the crossover some time after the DC release, but so far no official release date has been issued.
Don't want to miss out, add this crossover to your pull list at Excalibur Comics or wherever you get your comics from.
