Shreveport's comic con, Geek'd Con, is heading back to the Shreveport Convention Center. The dates this year are August 18th through 20th, 2023.

Since its start, Geek'd Con has been one of the premiere comic con style events in the state of Louisiana. The event has generated millions of dollars in economic impact to the Shreveport and Bossier City area. While also bringing in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members, Star Wars icons, Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame members, and horror movie legends.

The 2023 Geek'd Con lineup features a ton of amazing talent. Including a Grammy Award winner, and Olympic Gold Medalist, an NFL Hall of Fame member, and multiple Disney icons. Not to mention guests from some of the biggest franchises in the world...like Scooby-Doo, Pokémon, and Harry Potter.

These celebrity guests come to Downtown Shreveport to meet fans, sign autographs, and take pictures.

Here are some of the highlights you can tap into through Geek'd Con sponsorship, thanks to research from the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau and Eventbrite (who processes Geek'd Con ticket sales):

-Geek'd Con provides a $2.2 million economic impact to the Shreveport-Bossier area annually.

-Through social media, our Geek'd Con website, and the Geek'd Con mobile app, we've reached just under 1 million people since August of 2022.

-Every August there are more than 10,000 fans who come through the convention center on Geek'd Con weekend, and we expect over 15,000 attendees in person for 2023.

-The demographics of Geek'd Con fans have no age or wage limit:

Statistically, 38% of con-goers are between the ages of 30-49, with almost 10% of the audience being over 50 years old.
When it comes to cash, more than 25% of attendees make more than $60,000 a year, and over 13% of the audience makes over $91,000.

-Its not just a "boys club" at comic cons. Research shows attendance breaks down 55% male, and 45% female. Under the age of 30, the breakdown is 50/50:

Data shows there are very few behavior differences between male and female fans in terms of "fandom intensity", "frequency of con attendance", motivation for going to conventions, and spending habits both inside and outside the convention.

-The majority of con goers spend $100-$500 at conventions over and above admission, travel, hotels, food, and parking. About 7% of report spending over $1,000 on merchandise at conventions.

-Data shows that the people who spend money at conventions are the same people who spend money at sponsor stores, at roughly the same rates. Winning customers on the convention floor can translate to better retail performance year-round.

The Geek'd Con goal since Day 1 has been to help everyone realize they're a "geek". Just look at the media we consume...The biggest movies every summer are based in comic books, sci-fi, or action. What about the biggest of all-time? Avatar (sci-fi), Marvel (comic book), Star Wars (sci-fi), Jurassic Park (sci-fi), and Disney franchises make up 9 of the top 10 box office returns of ALL TIME. If you add Harry Potter (fantasy/magic) and look at the top 20, the same franchises make up 17 of those 20.

What are the show everyone is talking about right now? The Last of Us (based on a video game), Wednesday (horror/fantasy), The Mandalorian (sci-fi), Yellowjackets (horror/fantasy), Star Trek: Picard (sci-fi)...all of these shows fall into "geek" fandoms. That's not even considering some of the most talked about series ever, like Game of Thrones, The X-Files, Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Twilight Zone, along with the various other Star Trek incarnations.

The things that make up pop culture in 2023 are almost all "geeky". We haven't really even scratched the surface of horror fandoms, pro wrestling fandoms, or maybe the fastest growing fandom...anime.
